Starting An Event Planning Business

Starting An Event Planning Business

Now that I am finishing up with my Master’s program, its time to put things in motion with starting my own event planning company. Starting an event planning company is tedious and time consuming.  The event planning business is a good business to start because it is a very lucrative business and ever changing.

Before you begin your own business you have to decide what area of the event planning business that you want to specialize and if there is a strong target market for that type of business.  If there is no need and the industry analysis shows a lack of growth, you may need to change your specialization.

Education, networking, and experience are necessary to be successful.  Even though I have been planning events for quite a few years, I am looking forward to working with a mentor that can give me the proper professional on the job training in the business since I have acquired the necessary education and networking opportunities. People want to know your credentials before they are willing to invest in your company or hire your company to plan your events.

Even after those areas have been attained, you need to read up on the industry on a regular basis to stay abreast with the latest event planning news. It will be fundamental to your business to join various groups that you can join to support them in their endeavors and also support you when you have events.  This will also go hand in hand with networking.  It would also be wise to physically attend events and pass out your business card and introduce yourself and your business so they can put a face to the business card.

Having an event planning business or any business for that matter is a non-stop job that supersedes your standard 9 to 5 job. Having your own business opens the door up for non-sleeping nights, attending events that may not interest you, and planning events that may go against what you believe or would normally support. Being an owner of an event planning business requires you to think out-of-the-box and into the mind of the client.
